Gestational Diabetes: Remain Healthy With Diabetic Diet

Gestational diabetes is a medical disorder where patient have high blood sugar during pregnancy. Diabetic diet for gestational diabetesis an effective way to control high blood sugar as your body gets the sugar through what you eat. Glucose is a simple sugar which is produced when much of the food and drink that we take is broken down in the digestive system. Glucose is very crucial as it is the main source of energy that body require in order to perform all physical tasks. The body uses the glucose to produce energy with the help of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Only with the help of insulin glucose is able to enter the cells in your body which is used to produce energy and continues to remain in your blood. This triggers your blood sugar to grow. When there is a little production of insulin in the body or body is not able to use the insulin produced the sugar level in the blood increase to a high point. This form is considered as diabetes.

Gestational diabetes occurs due to hormonal changes prevalent at the time of pregnancy. At this period of time certain hormones that are created in the placents limit the insulin from regulating the glucose level in the body creating a disorder that is know as insulin resistance. The placenta is the organ connecting the baby to the uterus by the umbilical chord which let nutrients to pass from the mother to the baby. Placenta grows larger with the advancement of time and start producing higher levels of hormones which results in the increase of insulin resistance.

During this time there is approx three times the normal amount of insulin produced naturally by the mother’s pancreas to overcome insulin resistance. When sufficient amount of insulin is not produced for overcoming the effect created by increased hormone levels it results in high blood glucose and gestational diabetes.

It is imperative to treat high levels of blood glucose quickly during pregnancy. If not it can instigate problems both for the child and the mother also. It is not necessary that diabetes is transferred to the baby but it should be treated properly so that baby don’t start producing more insulin and gain more weight. This may be the cause of premature birth.

After delivery blood glucose levels once again reaches to normal levels in gestational diabetes. There is greater chance for a women who is suffering from gestational diabetes to develop diabetes mellitus type II at a later stage.

Diabetic diet is of vital importance in controlling high blood sugar levels in a pregnant woman. Carbohydrates in foods with high starch content and sugar is the main cause affecting glucose levels. Don’t forget to make sure that you are eating proper amount of carbohydrates at the same time everyday and check that proteins and some unsaturated fats are also included in your meal.

It is suggested to eat small meals and snacks evenly spread whole day with the same quantity of carbohydrate taking care to refrain from deep fried or extremely fatty food. You should prefer high fiber content food like pasta, whole grain bread, cereals, rice, vegetables and fruits in your diet. Gestational diabetes should be treated seriously and precautions should be taken regarding the diet you take at the time of pregnancy to prevent high blood sugar levels.

Best Skin Care Products: Great Ways Of Treating Dry Skin

June 29, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

In conducting your skin care, keep in mind that you should give yourself the skincare that you need, regardless of what kind of skin you have. It's truly a common knowledge that the moisturizer is the answer to dry skin, but, most of the time the cream and body lotion provide many kinds of protection. Weather and temperature changes, the use of chemicals and detergents, a poor cleanser or soap quality, an imbalanced and improper diet that's poor in essential nutrients and even health problems like thyroid dysfunctions and diabetes are the culprits of skin dryness. Don't fret, for each individual will really find the right treatment/cure for skin dryness.

You will be able to learn something about the right treatment for dry skin if you eat right and live a healthy lifestyle. Do you consume enough veggies and fruits? Does your diet include drinking enough water? Is it part of your routine to take hot baths or quick showers? What kind of makeup do you put on? Do you rest and sleep properly during the nighttime? You may search online which factors exasperate the dryness of the skin to prevent against them. To address just one of the above questions: the condition of your skin will tell you how much hydration you have in your system.

Appropriate liquid intake will be able to easily flush the toxins from your system, keeping the tissues damp and fresh: lacking the right amount of water will promote skin dryness. Therefore, moisturizing on the outside, but hydrating on the inside: this should be the primary motto for a treatment for dry skin. Stay away from alcohol because it will make you dehydrate fast. The body requires a lot of water as it eliminates ingested alcohol. There are lots and lots of homemade masks and cures that can be used constantly.

Veggies, fruits, yogurt, cold-pressed oils and herbs can easily be made into the right ingredients for such a treatment for dry skin. However, always keep in mind that daily routine makes the real treatment for dry skin, so for this you need to give it the amount of time it deserves. Make it a point that you get up early in the morning to moisturize and clean your skin. You should do the same tasks before going to bed in the evening, but it should be done the other way around: begin with the removal of your makeup then do the moisturizing.

Home Exercise Program Secrets: How to Get In Great Shape at Home

June 28, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Health & fitness goals come in many forms and descriptions. Take a survey of thirty people, ask them what their top fitness goals are and you’ll get thirty different answers. There will most likely be some similarities amongst many of those fitness seekers - but then again, what means ‘toning up’ to one may mean something entirely different to another person.

Regardless of the many different specific versions of personal fitness goals, we can easily put them into several broader categories that can hold the various subcategories and definitions as implied (or inferred) by any type of specific fitness ‘enthusiast’.

To keep matters simple, I will list the broadest phrases that define the majority of fitness objectives as applied to ‘regular’ men and women.

1)    Body Fat loss/Weight loss

2)    Muscle ‘Toning’ (getting leaner)

3)    Strength Building

4)    Muscle Development

5) Energy Level Boosting and Enhancement

6)    Body-Shaping / Body-Toning

7)    Flexibility Improvement/ Range of Motion

8)    Reduction in Aches & Pains (Back problems, etc)

9)    Improved Self Image and Self Confidence

10)     Improved Health/Medical Profile (Wellness)

11)     Cellulite Reduction and Flab Tightening

There is definitely some overlap between these terms not only in definition but also in practice. But, this is a good thing - not a bad thing, at all - reason being that you can only get improvements in some of these areas if you are realizing improvements in a few of the others. Now, we are probably getting into an area of discussion more suited for fitness pros as opposed to fitness seekers but I think you are getting the idea of where I am coming from.

Optimal health and fitness is not defined by just one element but rather by at least 3 or 4. In other words, having a ‘hot body’ does not define one as fit - but having a great body, that is flexible and capable of a moderate amount of physical performance - which is fed a well rounded, nutrient dense diet will most likely fall into the ‘healthy and fit’ category.

Looking at the flip side, having a body that isn’t defined as sexy or hot by mass media norms doesn’t mean the owner of that body is ‘unhealthy and unfit’. Remember, fitness is not defined by whether or not you can elicit cat calls and get yourself ‘checked out’ by others around you. Rather, realistic and ‘helpful’ fitness is a ‘total package deal’. It should answer the clever question: ‘What are you, as a whole?’ when we consider all ingredients. In the end, it’s how we feel about ourselves, with all parameters of fitness considered.

So, where am I leading you with this brain bending philosophical perspective? Well, the actual measurement of fitness progress and success can take many forms when we talk about specifics, but when the smoke clears and its time to assess ones changes and improvements - there are several elements to consider, depending on your personal fitness goals, that will tell a tale and provide all the feedback needed to let you know if you are on the right track or in need of exercise/diet program modifications.

One of these key elements is your own intuition - you should be able to ‘feel’ if you are making progress or not. While there is nothing wrong with body-fat monitoring, scale based weigh-ins, or muscle-strength tracking… It is more important that you learn to rely on your internal senses. You want to learn how to get in tune with your body and your self. The better you get at this - the simpler it becomes to ’stick to your plan’, to make consistent and ‘measurable’ progress… and to make your healthy fitness lifestyle ‘2nd nature’ to you.

Purchasing A Fitness Home Gym

Do you have a few pounds to lose? Do you want to tone up or bulk up? If you are interested in improving health and feeling better about yourself, you should think about purchasing a fitness home gym.

Benefits To Owning Your Own Fitness Home Gym

Owning your own fitness home gym will open countless doors to you. Instead of having to go out to the gym, you can simply work out at home. You can purchase all of the fitness gear for your home gym that you will need and make your own home just as effective as the gym. Many people want to work out and improve their health and physique, but they find it difficult to make time to get away from the house to go work out at the gym. If you purchase your own fitness home gym, you will never have to worry about that again. You can work out while your kids nap or after they go to bed. You will not have to worry about getting a babysitter for workout time or wasting what precious little time you have with your children at the gym. Instead of worrying about what your children are doing, you can relax and know that they are right in the next room. This convenience is a huge reason why people purchase their own fitness home gyms instead of continuing to go to the gym.

Another great reason to purchase your own fitness home gym is because it will save you money. You may have to spend a couple thousand dollars up front for your home gym, but in the long run it will end up being much cheaper than going to the gym and paying for a gym membership. Gym memberships can be anywhere from twenty dollars a month to several hundred dollars a month. It is better than wasting that money you purchase your own fitness home gym.

If you needed another reason to purchase your own fitness home gym, here it is. Equipment that other people have used in the gym you also use them when you go there. They have sweated on it and touched it to their bodies. Countless germs are all over the equipment, and even if you wipe it down there is no way to guarantee that you have successfully gotten rid of all of the germs. If you have your own home gym, you will never have to worry about who used it before you did.

So go ahead and purchase your fitness home gym and become a owner!

Chiropractic Care Can Relieve Your Child’s Earaches and Ear Infections

June 27, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

pediatric chiropractic

The most widespread basis for visits to a pediatrician is earache. More than 70 percent of children will have had at least one earache by the age of three, and nearly one-third will have had three or more earache occurrences. However, what might be surprising is that earache is also the most widespread reason for children under the age of five years to be escorted by parents to the chiropractor’s office.

How Chiropractic Care Relates to Earache and Ear Infections

A pediatrician who determines that a child with an earache has a middle ear infection will normally prescribe antibiotics as a standard course of treatment. New analysis, however, has determined that this is often imprudent. The cause of the child’s middle ear infection may not be due to bacteria, and inasmuch as antibiotics are only effective against bacterial pathogens, frequently there will be no positive response. The reason for this is that numerous cases of middle ear infection can be generated by a virus, and viruses do not respond to antibiotics. This may be the reason why children develop chronic ear infections.

One of a variety of assessments that a Honolulu chiropractor can make is whether the earache or ear infection is caused by irritation of the small nerves in the spine, called free nerve endings.

When these nerve endings are inflamed, an aberrant tension is created in the small muscles of the neck. Pressure generated on the lymphatic drainage ducts as a result of muscle tension can stop adequate drainage from inside the ear. This problem prevents the body from naturally fixing the problem. In addition, balance can also be affected.

Inadequate drainage of lymphatic ducts can be diagnosed by a chiropractor if there is increased tension in the neck and paraspinal muscles on the side with the earache. The chiropractor also checks for spinal vertebrae that are either moderately out of alignment or are not moving within their normal range. There are a number of reasons for such acondition as the result of the many bangs, jolts, and falls the majority of children encounter growing up. Restoration of normal lymph drainage is most often accomplished with a short series of treatments that include spinal adjustments and manipulation of the neck muscles. If your child is experiencing the pain of an earache or an ear infection, call your Honolulu chiropractor as soon as possible.

Advanced Research and Guidelines

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), ear infection, the most frequent childhood illness after the common cold, accounts for nearly 30 million doctor visits each year. What’s more, at least 6 million courses of antibiotics are extraneously prescribed for the problem.Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released new guidelines for treating pediatric ear inflammation, and definitively recommended a period of “watchful waiting” since, in many cases, infections clear up on their own, without medication.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) commends the AAP on the guidelines and emphasizes that chiropractic treatment is a “good first option” for treating ear infection conservatively. “Doctors of chiropractic have been treating children for decades with great success - helping them to avoid painful ear infections, antibiotic overuse and resistance, and ear tube surgery,” said ACA President Donald Krippendorf, DC. “Particularly when dealing with young children, drugs and surgery should be an absolute last resort.”
